Easy Recording Fun

by Laura on June 19, 2012

Need some instant fun?  Today’s What’s out there Wednesday highlight is a cool little gadget for recording.

Talk Point, a battery operated device from Learning Resources is easy to use and extremely fun for toddlers, preschoolers, and even older kids.  My kid have had an absolute blast with it.

Here’s how it works:

Switch button to record.  Press down on top to record your voice. The device records 10 seconds.  Switch button to play.  Press down on top to play recording.  Record over and over again.  Took just a little tutorial for my preschooler.  For younger kids, you could record it yourself and hand it to them to play, or switch the buttons for them.  Super easy :)

I found it at a teacher store, and when I bought it, the clerk said lots of parents buy them to stick in kids’ lunchboxes (great idea too!).  I told her my idea about using it on a car trip, and she thought that was a fabulous use and had never heard of that before.  She obviously doesn’t know me and how my brain looks at everything and its use for traveling :)

So where to get it?  At a teacher store, I found it on sale for $4.50 I believe.  Learning Resources only has a set of 5 for sale for $34.99.  Amazon lists the set of 5 for a few dollars cheaper, but also has the individual talk point for sale:

One note–this toy would be better in a space where the playbacks and loud laughter would be appropriate.  Your plane mates might not appreciate it.

I love including toys that make for great independent play.  Any other ideas you can think of for this device instead of just free play?

I love this idea for lunch boxes! In the car would be fun too. I can hear the giggling now!
