Behind the scenes

About 5 years ago, we prepared for a very large road trip, spanning 7 states. With 3 kids, ages 4, 2, and 18 months, I scoured all the travel books looking for THE one that would give tons of ideas and tips for car traveling with little kids. Some contained good activities for older kids, but they only gave meager ideas and tips for younger children, and were not specifically geared towards kids under 5.  I really needed ideas that were for children who couldn’t read and write yet!   I decided to make my own compilation, pulling from my early childhood education background, my experiences traveling as a wife of a professional photographer and young mother, and friends’ and family’s ideas.

Hence, the book Happy Little Travelers was born in hopes to help myself and other families looking for those same ideas. Thanks to focus groups, research, and family, I am excited at the resource I hope it will be to many families. Stay tuned for updates on the book launch!

I am excited to use this website to share additional ideas I have discovered from readers and products as well as the travels we have taken with our own family. Lots of exciting content will be coming in the next few weeks to make this a great resource for parents.  I hope you enjoy it…

More About Me:

I am a Texas girl, the oldest of 5 girls.  I started out with lots of practice inventing games and activities for my younger siblings on our family trips.  I received my Early Childhood Bachelor’s degree and have enjoyed teaching second grade, kindergarten, and preschool throughout the years.  I love being a mom to my 3 kiddos and managing a busy household.  They are definitely growing too fast.

My husband is a fine art travel photographer and we enjoy our travels throughout the country and the world.  If you love fine art photography, you can see the professional results of our experiences at www.joshtrefethen.com.

I have always loved to write, having written my first “chapter book” when I was in 6th grade.  Yea, it was pretty amazing and titled Cassidy, the Catastrophe.  Maybe I’ll have to rewrite that one someday.  I am excited to let my writer side fully come out now…she’s been bottled up too long.

My personal motto is that life is an adventure!  Kids are an amazing blessing.  Yes, tough on some days, but you still couldn’t ever imagine life without them.  I love the quote, “Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”
